About this tool

A hash is a fingerprint for text. Same input always gives the same messy string; change one letter and it's totally different. People use it to check a file hasn't been tampered with or to identify a piece of data.

This tool hashes your text with MD5, SHA-1, SHA-256 or SHA-512. SHA-256/512 are the safe ones for integrity checks; MD5 is fast but broken for security, so use it only for non-sensitive fingerprints.

It's handy for verifying downloads, deduplicating strings, or just seeing what a checksum looks like — all computed in your browser.

Honest caveat: hashing is NOT encryption and NOT a password store. Don't use MD5 to protect secrets. And yes, it runs locally — nothing uploaded (anonymous analytics only, privacy policy).

Quick tip: pick SHA-256 for most "is this the same file" checks; it's the current standard and widely trusted.

How to use

Type text, choose an algorithm (SHA-256, SHA-512, SHA-1 or MD5), and the checksum appears and updates as you type. Use Copy to grab it.
