About this tool

Base64 is that odd-looking blob of letters and digits you see inside emails, config files and web pages. It's not encryption — it's just a way to carry binary data safely inside text. This tool flips between the two.

What can you do with it? Encode a string to Base64, or paste Base64 back to get the original text. There's also a file tab: drop in an image and grab its Base64 so you can paste it straight into CSS or HTML.

It's the kind of thing you reach for once a month and then can't live without — embedding a tiny icon, stuffing a file into a JSON payload, or decoding something a log threw at you.

Heads up, honestly: Base64 is NOT a secret. Anyone can decode it. Don't use it to hide passwords or tokens. For that, use a real hash or encryption tool. And yes, everything here runs in your browser — nothing is uploaded.

Quick tip: when you decode, you can paste a full data:image/png;base64,… string and the tool strips the prefix for you automatically.

How to use

Pick Text or File, then Encode to turn input into Base64 or Decode to recover the original from Base64. Data: prefixes are stripped automatically on decode.
